I'm dragging my feet on the whole Medicare decision. Am I lazy? Confused? Scared?
Sure. A bit of all of those.
What I haven't said is that given our lack of marital status, BR is probably eligible for Medicaid.
If I had BR's best interests at heart, I would make sure he was taken care of in the event that anything should happen to me. That's a will and Medicaid, right?

I so wish I knew an answer any answer to this - KRP and I have gone back and forth on this more than once.
One day the money saving wins out the next day it is I like my Dr's and we are happy with the HMO.
On my end of the deal I have to trust the KRP will do what is best for us both if I am unable to do so.
I would never want her to jeopardize her future financial security unnecessarily.
Sometimes I wonder who has it worse. Us with the disease or those who love us and have to deal.
Peace, Love, Joy, to you both
Jan
Steve - I won't write another too long response about Medicare and such like I did on your last post on this subject. :-)
No matter what you do, you'll be able to change your mind in the future.
I think investigating Medicaid is an excellent idea. I must confess I keep not getting around to doing that for Skip. In Massachusetts, even tho we are married, she's eligible for Medicaid (Commonhealth). I keep hearing that, in addition to medical coverage, Medicaid also can provide other services (such as aides) to disabled participants. I wonder if that's actually true.
Apparently, we caregivers need a service to help us evaluate the various financial and medical options so we can make informed decisions.
I know this path! It is tough for all the reasons you state and more. Though if memory serves me correct marital status should not affect Medicare, and Medicaid is all about 'family' economics.
What would happen in the even that anything should happen to me was a driving force in our exploration of Medicaid.
Caregivingly Yours, Patrick
